changing the way we create, share, and alter music | The Campaign
Compatibility
Currently compatibility is a huge problem for portable media players! To get music services you have to buy certain music devices. This is caused by DRM, digital rights management.
Stripping DRM is illigal. There is also no legal way out of this bind.
Consumer Trust
DRM not only causes compatibily issues, but also is a form of consumer mistrust because they do not trust us even after we have purchased the music.
ISP’s are forced to provide information about users downloading files
Filters are setup that slow the internet down and are not effective.
Price
The biggest reason piracy exists at the average user level is because the price per song is too much. Most albums released are unfortunatly not worth the entire buy.
The 99 cents fad is over, we want better prices.
Why the extra cost if there is no packaging required for internet distributed music?
Solutions
What needs to happen?
- Music Industry: Unify DRM or remove it, Better online services
- Artists: retain music rights that allow them to produce and sell their music how they want
- Consumers: Support music 2.0, stop piracy
- Businesses: YouTube™ should not have to pay for user infringment, nor should cd-rw companies
Music 2.0 is about creating, sharing, altering, and change! It allows artists, consumers, and business to work together
Stop Buying Music
The reason artists had to use record labels in the past is because they did not have enough money to distribute their music far enough or into enough shops and radio stations to get heard by their target audience. Now by utilizing the internet, artists can become successful by broadcasting to the world at a much cheaper cost or even free depending on the method they want to release their music with. If we restructure music, the industry would no longer have to be afraid to commit to artists as they would no longer be in control of who the artists would be. As many websites are based now, media portals would create a true comparison in talent between artists, and allow new artists and music styles to flourish. Also, instead of being forced into a formula, artists could play whatever they wish and keep the rights to all their music. Artists could choose how much they wanted to sell their music for, and if they wish they may give it away for free while still making a profit from internet ads, donations, sponsors, or other creative methods.
